Overview
A tailor-made portfolio that gives the paintings room to breathe, and that Seçil can update and publish herself.
Challenge
Seçil's paintings are exceptional, so the site had to stay subtly elegant and leave them room to breathe. It is also heavy with images. That quality had to survive a fast load, and Seçil needed to change the work, the writing, and the structure without a developer.
Approach
The design began with a direction meeting about what the website should represent of Seçil and her practice. We then studied hundreds of painter and visual-artist portfolios and shaped a language that brings the artist and the artwork forward together. The structure rests on those two pillars.
We built the site in custom Astro and host it on Cloudflare, a strong fit for a fast, image-heavy site. Astro optimises the images at build time and Cloudflare caches them, so the pages and the paintings load in well under a second. There is no loading screen, no layout shift, and no blurred stand-in traded for speed. What arrives is the image at full quality.
Sanity is the content system, delivered turnkey so Seçil did not have to configure it. She can edit the site and her blog, reorder images, and change their metadata and the wider content structure. A custom webhook in Sanity publishes with one click: Cloudflare builds and deploys the new site without us in the loop. She uploads one high-quality image, and the same setup prepares the mobile, tablet, and desktop versions.
